🥬🍆🥕  🍄‍🧅🥬🍆🥕 Paradise of Vegetables 🥕🍆🥬🧅🍄‍🥕🍆🥬

Early humans subsisted on plants, such as nuts, fruits, and leaves. After mastering farming techniques, they began to lead a settled life. However, the types of plant foods they ate became fewer due to agricultural practices, and even fewer after industrialization. Since modern times, the types of plant foods for people to eat have again increased because of the advance of technology and the understanding of the importance of diverse foods. Vegetables are edible plants.

In recent years, eating out has become quite common in Taiwan. It is difficult to see how ingredients look like from the dining table. Therefore, the Paradise of Vegetables exhibition is curated to enrich children’s life experiences by encouraging them to participate in art and games. Through the sensory activities, it leads children to learn from art and understand the real world.

For example, in the city, nine out of ten children have no experience in shopping in the market. Nevertheless, no matter how life has been changed by technology, the market has always been an indicator of the community, representing local customs and culture. In the market, the green roots, fruits, and vegetables on the stalls are decorated with yellow and red peppers, purple eggplants, and black fungi, which are not less beautiful than a colorful garden with a variety of flowers. In addition, there are bustling sounds of vendors hawking their goods. Therefore, the market is a life culture classroom of colors and sounds. To arouse children’s curiosity about the market, the illustrator Croter Hung imagines a theme park—Amusement Park of Vegetables—and attempts to ignite the fun of exploration through the vegetable man.

Vegetables can provide people with rich vitamins, fiber, and minerals, yet it is quite often that children who are picky eaters frown at vegetables. Vegetable/Non-vegetable by Lin Liang-yin helps children become familiar with vegetables naturally through playing dress-up in vegetable costumes with their parents. Vegetable Classroom by Lin Jia-dong not only leads children to learn Mandarin phonetic symbols, but also encourages them to think about the names and origins of vegetables. Where do corn, onion, and potato come from? Plants play an indispensable key role in the birth of human civilization!

Vegetables are different in texture and aroma, with each having its own distinctive shape, which can cause various associations. Designed by Chang Ya-pei and painted by Lin Ling-rong, Vegetable Playground is an installation space filled with passion and fun. In My Little Vegetable Garden by Hsueh Hui-yin, where red carrots and tomatoes are planted, the complementary contrast between red and green can’t help arousing appetite. Often using colors boldly, Chi Wu restrains excitement in The Adventure of Carrots, in which Mr. Rabbit gets lost in the forest full of strange creatures and huge fruits and vegetables. Does he find the carrot at the end of the advantage?
